my review:
i can start off by saying his was hard to read but the amount of times my mouth dropped open, wow is all i can say. i’ve never expected something like this from colleen. beware there is A LOT of trigger warnings in this book. be sure to read the note coho wrote in the beginning before you even dive into this book.
i finished this book in 2 sittings. majority of it was one day and i couldn’t put it down. i wanted to know what was gonna happen next, the amount of craziness in this book was just WOW. i really don’t understand how some of you read this piece by piece because i COULDNT. i needed to know what happened next at every moment. i really don’t even know what to say it was so good that it left me speechless. it had me jumping at the edge of my seat with all the anticipation of the action scenes.
sloan, i feel for you girl. all the shit she had to endure would’ve sent anyone over the top but she pushed through. my heart ACHED for sloan the whole book, literally from page one. i hated who she had to pretend to be, pretend to like the things forced on her. she definitely deserved sooo much more. i guess your childhood really throws you into things that are familiar so you stick through it even if it’s not what you want. she was smart as hell and knew what she had to do to survive and protect the ones she loved. i admire her for it all but cry for her a little.
asa must be short for asshole. hatred is ALL i felt
for his controlling ass the whole time reading this book. i wished bad upon him the whole time. i hated him, i hated him for what he did to sloan, i hated him for thinking everyone owed him everything, hated him for just taking what he wanted without caring about the repercussions, or in his case no repercussions because he knew how to play everyone around him. he was smart, really smart, but that made me hate him more. i despised him every time i read another word that came from his shitty mouth. utter disgust for this controlling freak.carter/luke, was exactly what sloan needed. he was a breath of fresh air through all the horrors of this book. she needed someone to show her what she was truly worth and that’s exactly what he did. he was her knight in shining armor, he loved her the way she deserved to be loved and i love that she got that. he would go to earths end to show her what she truly meant to him and didn’t care what happened to him.
i wish we could’ve gotten more of sloan and her brother but that was also another breath of fresh air in this book. UNTIL it was all tainted by asshole asa. everything he touch was ruined and corrupted in some way.
i would definitely recommend this book to others but it has to be read with a grain of salt. colleen has an amazing way of writing and pulling you alllll the way into her stories. if i could read this (or verity) for the first time again, i definitely would. keep them coming coho. you’re kicking ass!
