from goodreads:
Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list. Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

my review:
your average teenage boy, clay jenson, found a package on his porch. the package contained 7 cassette tapes explaining the thirteen reasons why hannah baker committed suicide. the cassette tapes were passed on to "baker's dozen" and "lucky number thirteen, you can take the tapes straight to hell." listening to these tapes crushed clay, he wanted to help but he was too late..

when i first started reading this book it was sort of hard to follow, after a while i got the hang of it. i love how the book contains the point of view from both, clay and hannah. i love how jay asher made this book feel so real. i felt the pain of hannah as she explained her stories, and clay's pain as he listened to these tapes. the greatest part of the book is the end, how clay finds someone who is sort of following in hannah's footsteps.
i'd definitely recommend this book, it tells the story of a young girl who been picked on and taken advantage of. this book opened up my mind and made me realize this stuff really happens and drives people to the suicidal state, which is sad but tends to happen a lot. thirteen reasons why is definitely on my favorites list.

favorite quotes:
"you can't go back to how things were. how you thought they were. all you really have...is now"
"but you can't get away from yourself. you can't decide not to see yourself anymore. you can't decide to turn off the noise in your head."
"how can you call it love when it hurt you so badly?" "it was love because it was worth it.”
